In a heartwarming gesture, Mrs. Edumma Enobong Essien, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, brought Christmas cheer to the institution’s cleaners and security personnel, often considered the lowest rung of the staff hierarchy but hailed by her as the silent backbone of the polytechnic.

The visit, timed to coincide with the festive season, recognized workers whose efforts are frequently behind the scenes yet critical to the day-to-day functioning of the institution. Addressing the staff, Mrs. Essien emphasized that their dedication is seen, valued, and essential to the success of the polytechnic.
As part of the celebration, the Rector distributed ten bags of rice and gifted female cleaners with festive wrappers, bringing smiles and laughter to the beneficiaries. She encouraged them to remain committed to their duties, assuring that their sacrifices would not go unnoticed and that better conditions and recognition lie ahead.
Highlighting ongoing efforts to improve staff welfare, Mrs. Essien noted that advocacy for the direct employment of cleaners and security personnel in federal institutions, rather than engaging them through contractors, is advancing and receiving attention from relevant authorities. She pledged continued focus on the welfare of all staff, regardless of rank or designation, saying: “I am here to celebrate Christmas with you. The little I have brought is from my heart. I wish you the very best this season.”

The beneficiaries, overwhelmed by the gesture, described it as unprecedented in the history of the polytechnic and offered prayers for the Rector’s continued wisdom, strength, and success in leading the institution.
