The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ), Ambassador Baba Jidda Ahmad, OFR, alongside the newly appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor and immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, attended the formal inauguration of the University’s new Vice Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure.
The inauguration ceremony took place today, Thursday, 11th September 2025, at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters, Abuja.
Professor Bunkure’s appointment was approved by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, for a single term of five (5) years.
Prior to this appointment, Professor Bunkure served as the Provost of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, and subsequently as the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kano, following its upgrade to a degree-awarding institution.
A distinguished scholar and administrator, Professor Bunkure is widely recognized for his contributions to ICT in Science Education, Ethno-Science, and Physics Education. His academic qualifications include:
NCE in Physics & Mathematics (1986), B.Sc. in Physics (1991), and Postgraduate Diploma in Management (1997) — all from Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
M.Ed. in Science Education (2008) and Ph.D. in Science Education (2012) — from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dauda Lawal Dare, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’idu Ahmad, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, among other notable personalities.
The Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, and Students of the University warmly congratulate Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure on his appointment and wish him a successful and impactful tenure.
