Five students with disabilities at Lagos State University (LASU) have been awarded scholarships worth ₦2.1 million by the Lateefat Odunuga National Scholarship Foundation.

The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday, 18th September 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.

The beneficiaries — Praise Onoigboria, Dominion Uzoma, Rachel Oladosu, Paul Hunga, and Nosiru Idowu — were recognised for their academic excellence, with Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPAs) ranging from 3.71 to 4.35. They were accompanied by the Deputy Registrar of the Disability Support Office, Mrs. Bukola Afolami-Arojojoye.

In addition to the scholarships, the Foundation instituted a ₦2 million endowment for the best graduating female students in LASU’s Department of Psychology. The initiative aims to promote inclusivity, inspire young women in the field, and strengthen academic excellence within the university.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, described the Foundation’s support as an act of empowerment that affirms every student’s right to thrive. She commended the endowment for psychology students as a forward-looking investment in education and gender equality.

Founder of the Foundation, Ms. Lateefat Odunuga, an alumna of LASU’s Department of Psychology, addressed the gathering virtually. She explained that the initiative was born out of her personal journey and a promise to give back. According to her, the scholarships and endowment represent not only financial aid but also a legacy of opportunity, inclusivity, and excellence.

The Director of the LASU Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), Prof. Rafiu Okuneye, whose office facilitated the initiative, noted that students with disabilities face additional challenges in their educational journey and praised the Foundation’s gesture as a significant step toward equal opportunity.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Praise Onoigboria expressed gratitude to the Foundation and the university for the life-changing support, pledging that they would excel in their studies and serve as ambassadors of the Foundation’s generosity.

The event was attended by members of LASU management, representatives of the Legal Unit, LASUDA, Disability Support Office, and the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR). The vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu.

The Foundation’s delegation to LASU was led by Barr. Deji Folson, alongside Mr. Olatunde Ayodele, Mr. Olanrewaju Aluko, Mr. Olajide Kadri, and Mr. Kabiru AbdulKareem.
