FULafia SIWES Directorate sensitises students

The Directorate of Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has organised an orientation programme for students of the University preparing for the mandatory industrial attachment.

The orientation programme took place at the Mallam Adamu Adamu Office and Lecture Complex, Permanent Site Campus of the University.

Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, appreciated the SIWES Directorate for organising the training saying the training was necessary to provide the needed information and guidance to the students.

The vice-chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Partnerships, Prof. Saimaila Usman Dakyes, expressed gratitude to  the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for its continued collaboration with the University and making the orientation programme a success. 

Abdul Rahman urged the students to take the orientation programme seriously, noting that the industrial attachment would expose them to the demand and challenges of the workplace and enable them acquire skills that would provide jobs and extra income after education.

In her welcome address, the Head of SIWES, FULafia Dr. Aisha Bello, said that the orientation programme was an essential part of a student’s academic programme, pointing out that it was designed to help students to have practical experience after learning the theoretical aspect.

She thanked the vice-chancellor for always providing the needed support to the directorate each time the need arose.

The SIWES director appreciated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Aleruchi Chuku, and the Director of ITF, Lafia, for accepting to speak to students on the impact of industrial attachment, calling on the students to make effective use of the lessons learnt from the resource persons.

The guest speaker, Aleruchi Chuku, who spoke on the Topic "The Roles of  Industries in SIWES" sensitised the students on the objectives of SIWES, suitable industries to look out for, importance of skill development, mentorship, networking mechanisms, and talent pipeline, among others. 

 

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Pheobe Ochoche, the head of training, who represented the ITF director,  called  on the students to be serious during the IT period. 

She listed some of the  documents required to take along to the SIWES place of work to include the student's log book SCA form, ITF form 8, letter to the employer, and letter of placement and assumption of duty form.
