The Directorate of Health Services, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has organised an Application Demonstration and Training Workshop for staff of its Medical Records Unit as part of efforts to strengthen capacity in Health Data Management and Analytics (HDMA) and Information Technology.

The Directorate of Health Services, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has organised an Application Demonstration and Training Workshop for staff of its Medical Records Unit as part of efforts to strengthen capacity in Health Data Management and Analytics (HDMA) and Information Technology.

The training, held on February 4, 2026, was facilitated by the Head of the Medical Records Unit, Mr. Saliu Muhammed, and forms part of ongoing initiatives to modernise medical records management and improve service delivery within the University Health Services.

Speaking at the workshop, the Acting Director of Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin, commended the initiative, describing it as a major milestone for the Medical Records Unit and the Health Centre. He noted that the training, the first of its kind within the unit, would enhance operational efficiency and professionalism, urging participants to apply the knowledge acquired in their daily responsibilities to further strengthen the Health Services. He also encouraged other units within the university to adopt similar capacity-building initiatives.

In his presentation, Prof. Olaniyi Olayiwola of the Department of Statistics, FUNAAB, highlighted the critical role of data management and analysis in healthcare delivery. He stressed that effective data analysis supports informed decision-making and improves patient care outcomes, adding that poor data management practices have contributed to challenges within healthcare systems in various settings.

Also speaking, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Services (DICTS), Mr. Temitope Soretire, reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to collaborating with the Health Centre in advancing health information technology and commended both the facilitator and participants for the successful organisation of the workshop.

Earlier, Mr. Muhammed explained that the training aligned with World Health Organisation recommendations on the computerisation of medical records, noting that the objective was to equip staff with practical skills in healthcare data management and analytics, particularly in the use of the newly automated clinical attendance and admission HDMA system.

He added that the training has equipped participants with competencies that will enable them to demonstrate proficiency and transfer acquired knowledge to other staff involved in data management within the unit.

The workshop concluded with participants sharing experiences and insights gained during the sessions, followed by the presentation of certificates, while an award of honour was presented to the Head of the Medical Records Unit in recognition of his leadership and initiative.
