Esther Olanrewaju Emerges Overall Winner as FUNAAB Concludes 3-Day Biotechnology Education Quiz Challenge

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has concluded its three-day Biotechnology Education Quiz and Challenge, with Miss Esther Olanrewaju of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management emerging as the overall winner at the end of the competition held on February 4, 2026.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has concluded its three-day Biotechnology Education Quiz and Challenge, with Miss Esther Olanrewaju of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management emerging as the overall winner at the end of the competition held on February 4, 2026.

The competition, organised by the University’s Biotechnology Centre, was designed to promote scientific knowledge, innovation and sustained interest in biotechnology, attracting participants from FUNAAB and other tertiary institutions who competed in a series of intellectually engaging contests.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Biotechnology Centre, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Idowu, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships and collaborations through well-structured Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with relevant organisations. He disclosed that the University had entered into several MoUs with reputable companies, noting that proposed collaborations, including that with Katechey Company Limited, must have clearly defined objectives to ensure mutual benefits.

Earlier, representatives of partner organisations provided insights into their operations and areas of possible collaboration with academic institutions. The representative of Inqaba Limited, Mr. Joseph Olorunmbe, and the representative of Katechey Company Limited, Mrs. Happiness Egwuatu, highlighted their organisations’ services, product offerings and prospects for partnership in research and development.

At the end of the competition, Miss Elizabeth Erinoso of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Ibadan, emerged as the First Runner-up, while Mr. David Alade of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, FUNAAB, secured the Second Runner-up position. Miss Joyce Ijelu, also of FUNAAB, finished as the Third Runner-up. Winners received cash prizes and gift items during the closing ceremony.

Dignitaries present at the event included Emerita Professor Olufunmilayo Adebambo; former Directors of the Biotechnology Centre, Prof. Akinola Popoola and Prof. Olufunke Shittu; the current Director of the Centre, Prof. Ayotunde Adebambo; Dr. Kudirat Agboola; Dr. Damilola Adebambo; and members of staff of the Biotechnology Centre.

Organisers described the competition as a successful initiative that reinforces FUNAAB’s commitment to advancing biotechnology education and fostering scientific excellence among students.
