The Management of the Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE) has revealed that over 4,000 students were admitted into the University in the 2023/2024 academic session.
The 12th Matriculation Ceremony of FUO was conducted at the East Campus main auditorium on March 1, 2024 amid pomp and pageantry. Professor Teddy Charles Adias, Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, while congratulating the students admitted for the 2023/2024 academic session for scaling through the rigorous screening and transparent admission process, urged them to study hard. He emphatically warned against engaging in cultism, stating that such behaviour would not be tolerated, and any involvement in cult activities would result in expulsion. This stern message underpins the University’s commitment to a safe academic environment.
Expressing delight at addressing the selected candidates, Professor Adias stressed on the significance of matriculation as a gateway and the University’s commitment to formalizing student induction. He highlighted the unique opportunity for students to formally engage with the institution, taking a pledge binding them to their academic journey and publicly declaring their commitment to the University’s leadership. The Vice Chancellor advised the newly admitted students to effectively use the library and to avoid anti-social and criminal activities.
He further urged them to dress decently, shun cultism and be conversant with rules and regulations enshrined in the student handbook.
As a University that prides itself as a family University, the Vice Chancellor asked the students to effectively exploit the feedback mechanism for free flow of Communication with the slogan, “If you see something, say something”.
The VC noted at the event the privilege for students to share ownership rights but cautioned that these privileges could be withdrawn. He urged students to uphold good conduct as they navigate the University and emphasized the importance of the student handbook, likening it to a sacred text comparable to the Quran and the Bible.
Acknowledging the orientation programmes attended by new students, Professor Adias called on them to be mindful of their conduct within the university, emphasizing that privileges come with responsibilities. He asserted that the formal ceremony marks a pivotal moment for students to affirm their commitment to the institution and its values.
He emphasized the importance of students meeting deadlines, following instructions from senior mentors, and ensuring timely payment of tuition fees and course registration. Professor Adias also urged parents to collaborate with the University in maintaining the integrity of their children as ambassadors of their households, expecting exemplary conduct throughout their academic journey.
Earlier on, the grand opening ceremony featured a lively procession with Students, the Congregation, the Senate, Principal Officers and the Vice Chancellor.
