Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) alumnus, Dr. Crown Olaitan Adesomoju, has intervened on the deplorable Southgate–Junction road with palliative repairs after a tragic incident underscored the dangers posed by its condition.
The busy road, a critical link between the University’s Southgate and Akure township, had long been in a poor state, riddled with deep potholes that posed daily hazards to motorists, students, and residents. The situation reached a tragic climax recently when a life was lost in an incident attributed to the road’s condition.
In the wake of this tragedy, the FUTA Students’ Union reached out to stakeholders and alumni, appealing for urgent assistance. Dr. Adesomoju was among the first to respond, facilitating palliative works that saw the worst sections of the road promptly filled and made passable. The intervention has restored a measure of safety and motorability to what had become a dangerous route.

Community members and students have commended Dr. Adesomoju’s swift action, describing it as a gesture of compassion, leadership, and commitment to student welfare. His intervention, they noted, is a testament to the strong bond between FUTA alumni and their alma mater.
However, stakeholders stress that while the palliative measures provide short-term relief, they cannot substitute for a permanent solution. Calls have intensified for the Ondo State Government, Federal Government, corporate organizations, and other FUTA alumni to collaborate in rehabilitating the road and improving infrastructure within the University community.
Dr. Adesomoju’s action is already being celebrated as a reference point for alumni engagement and social responsibility, with many hoping it sparks broader partnerships for lasting development.
