FUTA and California State University Begins Collaborative Teaching, The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA and the California State University, (CSU) Stanislaus, USA have started a teaching collaboration programme. 

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA and the California State University, (CSU) Stanislaus, USA have started a teaching collaboration programme. The collaborative teaching arrangement between the two institutions is a component of the Carnegie Diaspora Fellowship awarded by the International Institute of Education (IIE), USA for academic partnership between Professor Odeh Oluwarotimi of CSU and Professor Ajibefun Igbekele of ARE, FUTA.

Conveying the message to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Head, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE), Professor T.E Mafimisebi wrote “At the commencement of the fellowship in 2022, our Department (ARE) hosted Professor Odeh for one month. During the period, members of academic staff of ARE co-developed curriculum in post graduate agribusiness course with Professor Odeh, in addition to joint visits to agribusiness entreprises with some available ARE post graduate students. In line with the planned activities during the visits, ARE and CSU have commenced a pilot programme on collaborative teaching of students. Some final year undergraduate and post graduate students of ARE have joined and started to participate in the online teaching of Prof. Odeh in the entrepreneurship courses of CSU. On successful implementation of this pilot collaborative teaching, it is planned that other courses would be covered in the joint teaching by ARE and CSU.”

Commending this development, the Vice Chancellor, professor Adenike Oladiji expressed her delight in the collaborative effort. She said “This is another plus to our University, especially in reaching out to the global academic sphere. I know that through this FUTA has registered its global relevance and further established herself as a university to beat in Nigeria.” She praised the effort of Professor Igbekele Ajibefun and commended the whole staff and students of the Department of ARE for making FUTA proud.
