FUTA VC Urges New Students' Union Leaders to Use Power for Service

At the swearing-in ceremony for the 40th elected officials of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Students' Union, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji emphasized the importance of using leadership positions to serve the student body and remain mindful of the transient nature of power. The ceremony, held on July 22, 2024, marked the official handover of leadership responsibilities to the new union executives.

Professor Oladiji urged the new leaders to approach their roles with selflessness and empathy, highlighting that leadership should not be used for personal gain but to address the needs and aspirations of the students. She assured the new leaders that FUTA management would continue to prioritize student issues and support their initiatives.
Dean of Student Affairs, Professor David Oke, echoed these sentiments, stressing that student leaders should act as a bridge between the student body and the administration. He advised the new officials to focus on service, integrity, and empowering others, creating an environment where students feel valued and inspired.
Outgoing President Comrade Oluwasoromidayo Olayemi advised the incoming administration to maintain a collaborative approach and serve as mediators between students and management to ensure ongoing peace within the university community. He expressed gratitude for the support and mentorship received during his tenure.
Newly elected President Adegoriola Abejoye, who took the oath of office administered by the Speaker of the Students Representatives Council, Adewale Adegbusi, pledged to strengthen collaboration with the university management and other stakeholders. He committed to upholding professionalism, transparency, and accountability, emphasizing unity among the officials as crucial for their success.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Prince Abayomi Akinruntan; President of the FUTA Alumni Association Worldwide, Engineer Adeyemi Bello; and various university officials and student leaders.
