FUTIA Gets Pioneer Governing Council as FG Inaugurates Governing Councils for Federal Tertiary Institutions
The Federal Government has inaugurated Governing Councils for the nation’s Federal Tertiary Institutions including Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education with a charge on them to ensure effective management of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions across the country
The Federal Government has inaugurated Governing Councils for the nation’s Federal Tertiary Institutions including Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education with a charge on them to ensure effective management of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions across the country, reinforce best practices inline with appropriate laws while supporting government’s agenda on Education.
The Five Membership Governing Council and Board appointed and inaugurated for the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) has Rt. Hon. (Dr) Emaeyak Ukpong as Chairman/Pro-Chancellor (Akwa Ibom State) while Hon. Iheanacho Obioma (Abia State), Engr Hadiza Ahmed Tukur (Kano State), Mrs Lucy Tsowa (Kwara State) and Dr Usman Mohammad Jahun (Jigawa State) were appointed and inaugurated as Governing Council Members.
The Inauguration and One Day Retreat for the reconstituted Governing Councils of the Federal Universities held on Thursday, 4th July, 2024 at the Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission, Abuja featured Welcome/Keynote Address by the Acting Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Mr. Chris J. Maiyaki, Presentation on TETFund Intervention Programmes by the Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, Technical Sessions on related topical issues by distinguished Resources persons, Questions /Answers Sessions and presentation of Communique among others.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA ), Prof. Leo Daniel has on behalf of the Management, Staff, Students and the University Community felicitate with the Chairman/Pro-Chancellor and other Members of the Governing Council and Board of the University on their appointments by the Federal Government, inauguration and subsequent assumption of offices. He declared the commitment of the Management to partner and harmoniously work with the Governing Council to achieve academic excellence for the Institution.

Shortly after the Inauguration and One Day Retreat for the Governing Councils by the National Universities Commission, the FUTIA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel along with the Registrar, Offiongita E. Nkang(Mrs) led the Chairman/Pro-Chancellor and Members of the Governing Council on a Courtesy Visit to the Chancellor of the University, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Barau Mu’azu II, 7th Sarkin Sudan Kontagora at his office in Abuja.
Speaking at the Visit, the Chairman/Pro-Chancellor of the University, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Emaeyak Ukpong pledged the Commitment of the Governing Council to partner with the Management, Chancellor, Staff, Students, the University Community and critical stakeholders in the onerous tasks of building the University.
The Pioneer Chancellor of the University who is the Emir of Kontagora Emirate while receiving them congratulated the Chairman/Pro – Chancellor and Members of the Governing Council on their well deserved appointments, Inauguration and subsequent assumption of offices declaring his readiness to collaborate with them and management for the growth of the Institution.

Congratulatory Cards and Letters signed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel and Registrar, Offiongita E. Nkang (Mrs) respectively were presented on behalf of the University to the newly appointed and inaugurated Governing Council Members by the Chancellor, HRH, Alhaji Muhammadu Barau Mu’azu II, 7th Sarkin Sudan Kontagora and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel respectively.
