FUTIA Takes Delivery of School of Pure and Applied Sciences Academic Building, Awaits TETFund Commissioning

The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi has formally taken delivery of a newly completed academic building for its School of Pure and Applied Sciences, marking another milestone in the institution’s expanding infrastructure drive.

The facility, executed under the 2023 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) annual intervention by West Strata Limited, was officially handed over during a ceremony held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the university’s permanent campus.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel, described the development as a significant step in the university’s infrastructural expansion, noting that it represents the second completed academic building delivered at the permanent site by an indigenous contractor.

He explained that the new facility would facilitate the gradual relocation of academic programmes from the university’s take-off campus, in line with ongoing development plans.

Prof. Daniel also highlighted the institution’s growing academic structure, noting that it currently operates 24 departments spread across six schools. He expressed optimism that ongoing construction of access roads and internal road networks—aligned with the university’s master plan—would be completed on schedule to improve mobility within the campus.

The vice-chancellor commended West Strata Limited for timely project delivery, while also acknowledging the cooperation of university directorates and host communities throughout the construction period.

He thanked the university management, physical planning and works directorates, project staff, suppliers, artisans, and host communities for their collaboration.

University Registrar, Mrs. Offiongita Nkang, in her vote of thanks, also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, TETFund, the contractor, and host communities for their support and peaceful cooperation during the project execution.
