The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Minna Chapter, successfully hosted its 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) in Minna, Niger State. Themed "Present Economic Challenges: The Role of Mechanical Engineers," the event spotlighted the pivotal role of mechanical engineers in addressing Nigeria's economic hurdles through innovation, industrialization, and sustainability.

Engr. Dr. Akonyi Nasiru Sule, Chairman of NIMechE Minna Chapter, opened the event with a welcome address emphasizing the need for creative problem-solving among engineers. He commended the awardees for their outstanding contributions to innovation and encouraged them to persist in their exceptional efforts.

The keynote address by Engr. Dr. Mohammed L. Yarima, Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Minna Branch, underscored the essential role of mechanical engineers in advancing industrial development, renewable energy, and agriculture. He urged engineers to leverage their skills to propel Nigeria toward a diversified and sustainable economy.

Engr. Dr. Esther Nneka Anosike-Francis, a lecturer at Nile University, Abuja, highlighted the transformative impact of mechanical engineers on ideas and economic systems. She called on Nigerian engineers to lead in building a resilient economy.

Engr. Dr. Abubakar Sadeeq Mohammed, Vice President-North of the Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI), emphasized the need to foster innovation and invention in Nigeria. He urged support for invention clubs, particularly in institutions like FUT Minna.

The conference also marked the 10th anniversary of the NIMechE Minna Chapter, celebrating with awards recognizing excellence in innovation and contributions across various fields. FUT Minna's staff, researchers, and inventors were honored with multiple awards for their remarkable achievements.
