In a remarkable gesture of community service, the non-governmental organization Group 10 (G-10) based in Ihe community, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has officially handed over newly constructed state-of-the-art science laboratories to the Enugu State Government. The N120 million project, located at Ihe Community Secondary School, is intended to bolster science education among students in the region.
Air Commodore Chiemeka Ozoemena (rtd), the Chairman of G-10, emphasized that the initiative stemmed from the group's commitment to giving back to the community that shaped them. Recognizing the vital role of individuals in community development, Ozoemena highlighted that the government's resources are limited, prompting their decision to contribute to the enhancement of the community and education sector. The group, consisting of gentlemen initially known as G-12, has invested over N120 million in the construction of the modern science laboratories.

The chairman expressed their aspiration to transform Ihe Community Secondary School into a Scientific Center for Enugu State and Nigeria. In an era focused on science and technology, the G-10 aims to produce the best scientists and technologists from the town. Ozoemena stressed that the laboratories would provide students with a solid foundation and practical experience, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, G-10 plans to establish a joint management group involving the school authorities, the organization, and the Enugu State Government. The Chairman emphasized the importance of science laboratories in promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Various dignitaries, including Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa and Enugu State Commissioner for Education Prof. Nwabueze Mbah, lauded G-10 for its contribution to education. Ohaa commended the project as worthy of emulation and predicted its replication in other communities. Prof. Mbah expressed his amazement, citing the alignment of the laboratories with the state government's focus on developing education and skill acquisition.
The Chairman of the Post Primary School Management Board, represented by Rev. Fr. Hilary Mgbodile, pledged to provide science teachers for the laboratories, emphasizing the need for producing future science professionals.
As the laboratories are officially handed over, the community anticipates the positive impact this initiative will have on education, aspiring to produce skilled professionals who will contribute to the scientific advancement of Enugu State and Nigeria.
