Gateway Polytechnic Student Allegedly Killed in Fresh Robbery Attacks
On November 27, suspected armed robbers invaded the Ipara-Remo and Ode-Remo communities, targeting students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade. The attackers, who struck around 1 am, reportedly shot students, sexually molested female students, and made away with their belongings.
In a tragic turn of events, a student identified as Segun from Gateway Polytechnic Sapade was allegedly killed during a recent robbery attack on the Ode-Remo community in Iperu North Local Government Area of Ogun State. This incident follows multiple armed robbery attacks recorded just two weeks prior.

During the latest attack on Saturday morning, armed men invaded the community, breaking into hostels, shooting students, and allegedly resulting in the death of Segun. Video footage obtained by our correspondent displayed the lifeless body of a student with gunshot wounds around his neck and another student with wounds in his arms. The suspected robbers damaged burglar-proof windows and broke doors to gain access to the hostels.
The National Association of Nigeria Students Director of Polytechnic Affairs for the South-West Zone, Olusola Ezekiel, confirmed the attack and emphasized the urgent need for hostel facilities to prevent future incidents. Students Union Government President, Olatunji Alexander, reported receiving information about the attack, stating that he was on official assignment in Abuja.

Despite attempts to contact the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, there has been no response. A police source closer to the community, however, confirmed the attack. The Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Folorunsho Adebayo, declined to comment on the matter.
