Gateway Polytechnic students protest against rising robbery incidents in the school
In response to a surge in armed robbery incidents in their residential areas, students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, located in Iperu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, have planned a peaceful protest. The demonstration is scheduled for today, Monday, December 4, according to a flyer distributed by the students.
The flyer urges all students to peacefully depart from their classes at 10 am and assemble at the administration building for the protest. The message on the flyer reads: “Everyone Must leave their classes Peacefully by 10 am and march to the Admin building. PEACEFUL PROTEST WALK TO THE ADMIN BUILDING.”

The protest is a reaction to a series of armed robbery attacks that have plagued the Ode-Remo community, a residential area for students of Gateway Polytechnic. During these attacks, the robbers have reportedly stolen belongings, assaulted students, and even caused fatalities. One student, known as Segun, was reportedly killed during an attack.

The most recent attack took place on Saturday morning when armed men broke into several hostels, shot at students, and allegedly caused the death of Segun. Other students were left with bullet wounds. The students are now demanding immediate action to address the escalating insecurity in their community.
