A distinguished scholar and seasoned administrator, Prof. Onyia currently serves as Director of the Inter-Disciplinary Research Directorate, where she has been instrumental in fostering a culture of research excellence, innovation, and collaboration across the University.
Her academic and professional training spans Nigeria, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States, with expertise in biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, biosafety, bioethics, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. She has successfully led multiple national and international research projects, attracting competitive grants and partnerships that have strengthened scientific capacity and informed policy development in Nigeria.

Prof. Onyia’s contributions extend beyond academia. She has played key roles in national and international governance, including biosafety regulation, environmental policy, food safety, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation, representing Nigeria on strategic scientific missions globally.
At GOUNI, she has excelled as a teacher, mentor, researcher, and administrator, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, organizing workshops, leading departments, and coordinating impactful outreach initiatives. Her work exemplifies the University’s commitment to research excellence, quality assurance, and societal impact.
