The National Universities Commission (NUC) has reaffirmed that accreditation exercises are designed to promote uniformity and uphold quality standards across Nigerian universities.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has reaffirmed that accreditation exercises are designed to promote uniformity and uphold quality standards across Nigerian universities.
This was stated by Professor Celestina Isiramen, who led a 12-member NUC accreditation team on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the University’s Council Chambers.
Professor Isiramen, from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, explained that the accreditation process serves as a peer review mechanism to ensure adherence to NUC’s academic benchmarks. She emphasized that the exercise is not a witch-hunt but a collaborative effort to strengthen academic standards, urging full cooperation from the host institution.
In his remarks, Professor Onuchuku expressed appreciation to the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, for sustaining policies that uphold quality education nationwide. He assured the visiting team of IAUE’s total support and encouraged them to enjoy the institution’s serene and peaceful environment.
The accreditation team is visiting IAUE for the evaluation of four programmes in the Faculty of Humanities—Foreign Languages and International Studies, Fine and Applied Arts, Music, and Religious and Cultural Studies—which were last accredited five years ago.
