In a commendable display of philanthropy and commitment to girl-child education, the Idoma Women in Diaspora (IWID) have awarded scholarships to five outstanding indigent female students of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO).

The ceremony, held at the Senate Chamber of the University’s Otada Campus, brought together principal officers, university management, and the beneficiaries in an atmosphere of gratitude and inspiration.
Leading the delegation, Mrs. Martha Agbo, representative of IWID, described the initiative as a recurring effort to promote academic excellence and empower the girl-child, encouraging them to become beacons of societal progress.
“We are here again, as always, to present cheques to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance. This is to encourage them to do better and to serve as examples to other girls coming behind,” she stated.
Receiving the group on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Friday Godwin Okibe, commended IWID for its consistent and impactful partnership. He explained that the selection process was rigorous and transparent, identifying the five best-performing indigent female students from 200-level programmes.
The scholarship recipients include:
- Okwori Eunice Anyandu – MBBS
- Okoko Favour Mary – MBBS
- Godwin Christiana Oyimolohi – MBBS
- Ogwuche Blessing Ogwa – MBBS
- Inalegwu Agbenu Mabel – Microbiology
Professor Okibe expressed appreciation for IWID’s continuous support of the Idoma nation and encouragement of academic excellence.
Also speaking, University Bursar, Chief Dr. Paul Hassan Akpa, hailed the donors’ contribution as a divine service, urging the beneficiaries to see it as a foundation for future success.
The Registrar, Mr. Michael Okoko Ogiji, highlighted past beneficiaries’ academic achievements and called for expansion of the initiative to cover critical cases requiring urgent financial intervention.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Peter Adikwu, recounted the story of a beneficiary who, despite losing her mother, excelled academically, emphasizing the life-changing impact of the scholarships. He appealed to IWID to sustain the support throughout the students’ programmes to ensure completion.
The high point of the event was the formal presentation of cheques, leaving the beneficiaries overjoyed and motivated.
