IMSU Student Sparks Outrage After Leaking Roof Forces Students to Use Umbrellas During Lecture
A student of Imo State University (IMSU) has taken to social media to highlight the deteriorating condition of a lecture hall after heavy rainfall forced students to sit through class while holding umbrellas to avoid getting drenched.
The video, shared on TikTok by user @that_imo_girl7, shows students scattered across the lecture hall with open umbrellas shielding them from water leaking through a visibly damaged roof.
The student who posted the clip urged the school authorities to address the situation, describing the buildings as “old and dilapidated” and emphasizing that both students and lecturers suffer as a result.
In the video caption, she pleaded:
“@IMO STATE UNIVERSITY please this is me bringing awareness to this… it’s not fair that we students have to face this and can’t find shelter in our halls/classrooms… I hope somehow this matter will reach the board of directors.”
She clarified that her intent wasn’t to shame the institution but to advocate for better conditions for everyone.
The post quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of reactions online.
Commenters expressed shock, sarcasm, and disappointment over the state of infrastructure at the university. Reactions from social media:
@sekura: “Poly Nekede is still the cleanest school in Imo.”
@Jesus : “See the school I picked as my first choice.”
@vee_vian03: “Wait, did they paste your results on the ceiling too?.”
@childoflight831: “This is beyond embarrassing for the school management.”
@gmsnailbar: “And this is the same school mocking polytechnic students? What a waterfall!”
@Es_Th_Er_08: “So this is the IMSU that won’t let NEKEDE rest .”
The video has reignited conversations about poor infrastructure in Nigerian public universities and the urgent need for intervention.
