Kano Government Launches Shuttle Buses for Students
The Kano State Government has launched the Abba Gida-Gida Students' Relief Transportation Scheme to ease transportation costs for students in tertiary institutions.
The Kano State Government has introduced a new transportation relief scheme aimed at reducing the financial burden on students in tertiary institutions across the state. The initiative, known as the Abba Gida-Gida Students' Relief Transportation Scheme, was officially launched at Gidan Murtala by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Speaking at the event, Gwarzo emphasized that the scheme aligns with Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration’s commitment to enhancing education accessibility and affordability. He revealed that eleven shuttle buses would operate at subsidized fares through an electronic payment system, ensuring seamless and cost-effective transportation for students.
The designated routes for the shuttle buses include Gidan Murtala to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Bayero University Kano (BUK) New Site, Airport Road (KACEPS), Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education to Kura Informatics, Northwest University, Audu Bako College of Agricultural Development in Danbatta, and the College of Education and Remedial Studies in Ghari.
The Deputy Governor directed the Ministry of Higher Education to oversee the scheme’s implementation and warned against any attempt to sabotage the initiative. “We will not tolerate anyone trying to undermine Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to strengthening education,” he stated.
Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, Vice-Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, praised the government’s effort, noting that the initiative would benefit over 10,000 daily commuters and positively impact students' academic performance by reducing transportation costs and challenges.
The launch of the shuttle buses reaffirms the Kano State Government’s dedication to supporting students and improving access to higher education through strategic interventions.
