Dr. Akabe highlighted that rats serve as carriers of the Lassa virus, present in their urine and feces, posing a risk of infection to individuals who come into contact with them. The symptoms of Lassa fever include abdominal pain, body pain, body weakness, and an elevated body temperature.
The speaker pointed out that unhygienic habits contribute to the virus' spread, citing poor sanitation as an invitation for rats into homes.
He concluded the lecture by suggesting preventive measures, including improving personal hygiene, proper food storage, prompt medical attention upon symptom onset, and creating awareness about the disease.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
