Kebbi State Governor Urges Federal Government to Expedite Completion of Smart Secondary School Project

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called on the Federal Government to intervene and ensure the prompt resumption of work on the Smart Secondary School construction project in the state. Governor Idris made this appeal during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Kebbi State. He emphasized the importance of completing the project, highlighting its significance in promoting the education sector.

The governor commended the Federal Government for selecting Kebbi State for the project, emphasizing its potential to enhance the education system. Speaking to journalists after the inspection, the Hon. Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, assured Governor Idris of the government's commitment to ensuring the contractor resumes work and completes the project. Tanko-Sununu expressed disappointment over the current level of progress and reiterated the administration's determination to see the project through to completion.

The Smart Secondary School project is part of the Federal Government's intervention through the Universal Basic Education Programme. While projects in 34 states have already been completed, Kebbi and Bayelsa States are yet to finalize theirs. Tanko-Sununu pledged to take necessary measures to bring back the contractor to the site and ensure the successful completion of the project, along with other ongoing federal government projects in Kebbi State.

Governor Idris also flagged off the construction and upgrade of 120 secondary schools across the state last year, valued at N8.9 billion. This initiative aims to revitalize the education sector by providing a conducive learning environment for students, particularly through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment in collaboration with the World Bank and Dominat Engineering Limited.
