Kwara State Government Inaugurates Governing Council of KWASU

The Governing Council of Kwara State University has been inaugurated with a charge to collaborate with all stakeholders towards making the institution a hub of innovative research, quality tertiary education, community service, and efficient service delivery.

The Deputy Governor of Kwara state, Mr Kayode Alabi, who inaugurated the council on Friday, February 9, 2024, pointed out that the selection of the council members was in recognition of their personal integrity, achievements, and commitment to the service of the people of the state.

He charged them to ensure prudent management of resources and ensure discipline at all levels.

“This is another call to service, and it is our expectations that you will put in everything to make a huge success out of it.

“This is a sober moment in the world, and especially in our national history, resources are increasingly scarce, while government faces rising obligations to different segments of the society,” the deputy governor said.

In her address at the inauguration, the Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde said the inauguration of a Governing Council for Kwara State University underscored the present government’s dedication to the institution to enable it to remain at the forefront of academic and research excellence.

She described members of the Council as carefully selected for their expertise, experience, and commitment to the ideals of higher education, urging them to work with the university administration to ensure that the institution continued to be the centre of excellence in education and research. 

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the Governing Council, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, appreciated the governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON,  for finding them worthy of the appointment, and pledged the commitment of the entire members of the Council to ensuring that the institution continues to occupy a pride of place in the comity of universities in the country and beyond.

It will be recalled that on the 24th of January, 2024, the governor of the state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq constituted the governing council of Kwara State University, chaired by a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali.

The other members include Professor Ibrahim Jawondo; Professor Aishetu Abdulkadir; Barrister Teju Oguntoye; Abdullahi Biogera; and, Maryam Funmilayo Dauda. 

Also present at the inauguration were the internal members of Council - Prof. Emmanuel Ajani, Engr. Nurudeen Bolaji Idrees, and Mr. Aliyu Uthman Abdulkadir.  

The management team of Kwara State University was led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh.
