Kwara State University Celebrates Inuagural Sports Festival
Kwara State University (KWASU) inaugural sports festival features track, team sports, and awards.
The inaugural Kwara State University Sports Festival concluded in grand style from July 2nd to 4th, 2024, at the university's bustling sports arena. The event, which drew enthusiastic participation from both faculty and students, showcased a vibrant display of athletic prowess and community spirit.
The festival's commencement was marked by an opening ceremony presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who highlighted the festival's aim to foster camaraderie and celebrate athletic talent within the university community. Professor Jimoh emphasized the festival's potential to enhance the physical and mental well-being of participants, underscoring Management's commitment to making it an annual tradition.

Professor Ibrahim Laro Abubakar, Chairman of the KWASU Sports Council, spoke of the festival's strategic role in preparing students for broader competitive platforms like the Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA) and the West African Universities Games (WAUG).
The festival's competitive fervor unfolded across three action-packed days. Day one featured thrilling track and field events including sprints, long jump, and shotput. Day two saw intense showdowns in badminton, volleyball playoffs, and strategic board games such as chess, scrabble, and ludo.

The festival's climax on the third day was marked by a gripping novelty football match between staff and students, culminating in a triumphant 3-1 victory for Team Students. The day also featured traditional favorites like tug of war, sack race, egg race, and needle race, adding a festive flair to the proceedings.
