Lagos Community Urges Governor Sanwo-Olu to Reinstate Wrongfully Dismissed LASU Lecturers
The Concerned Sons and Daughters of Ikoga-Zebbe, Badagry, have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reinstate Dr. Tony Dansu and four other lecturers from Lagos State University (LASU) who were wrongfully dismissed in 2017 and 2019.
The Concerned Sons and Daughters of Ikoga-Zebbe, Badagry, have called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reinstate Dr. Tony Dansu and four other lecturers from Lagos State University (LASU) who were wrongfully dismissed in 2017 and 2019.
In a press statement, the group expressed their disappointment over the government's inaction despite their previous appeal and a peaceful rally on May 18, 2024. “We are yet to see any positive results! Hence, we have to cry for justice to the public through the press once again on this same issue,” stated James Babatunde Avoseh, a signatory of the statement.
The group claimed that the five lecturers, including Dr. Tony Dansu, were unjustly dismissed by the former LASU Governing Council based on baseless charges. Despite a court ruling that the university administration had no authority to proceed against the union officers, the university continued with the trials, resulting in their dismissals.
“The university still proceeded with the trials and saw them conclusively to their dismissals, despite a court ruling that stated that the university authorities have no such powers to proceed against officers of the union,” said Dr. Mayowa John Adejobi, another signatory.

The Concerned Sons and Daughters of Ikoga-Zebbe appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to enforce the LASU Governing Council's decision from February 23, 2022, which reinstated the five lecturers. Barrister Tinka Gigonou Gabriel, another group representative, expressed hope that their lawful actions would achieve the desired results and make further actions unnecessary.
The group emphasized that the reinstatement of the lecturers is a matter of justice and fairness. They highlighted the negative impact of the dismissals on the community and humanity at large. “Dr. Tony Dansu is a proud Ogu son from Ikoga-Zebbe Kingdom, Badagry Lagos State, and his malicious disengagement with the four others from the university is a disservice to our community, Badagry, Lagos State, and to humanity at large,” said Ademola Akoteyon Bokoh.
