The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Lagos State University (LASU), on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, held a sensitisation programme for Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and Coordinators of Postgraduate Programmes on the newly reviewed regulations guiding postgraduate studies at the University.

The event, which took place at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, was aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the revised guidelines, which will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, explained that the review was undertaken to strengthen quality assurance and uphold the integrity of LASU’s postgraduate degrees. He noted that the review process was inclusive, with the committee—comprising Deans, Directors, and other academic leaders—meeting over 16 times to ensure a thorough and comprehensive outcome.
Professor Afisi stated that the new regulations introduce uniformity across departments, enhance quality assurance, and establish the Central Review and Regulatory Committee (CRRC) for PhD candidates. These, he said, will ensure LASU’s postgraduate programmes align with global best practices and maintain high academic credibility.

In his presentation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Toyin Enikuomehin, highlighted key innovations embedded in the revised regulations. He noted reforms such as digitalised processes, stronger research ethics, stricter admission requirements, defined programme timelines, ethical clearance for all research, and publication requirements for PhD candidates. He also announced the inclusion of a grievance redress mechanism to promote fairness and transparency in postgraduate supervision and examination.
The Dean of Postgraduate School, Professor Ibrahim O. Olateju, further elaborated on the operational framework of the new policies. He clarified that candidates with old degrees and O-Level deficiencies would benefit from newly introduced waiver policies, while stressing the need for strict compliance with admission and clearance procedures on the LACACA platform. He reaffirmed that the NYSC certificate remains a compulsory requirement for all admissions.
The Deputy Registrar, Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Mr. Samuel Asesanya, delivered the vote of thanks.

The sensitisation programme provided a platform for stakeholders to deepen their understanding of the new postgraduate framework, reinforcing LASU’s commitment to accountability, quality assurance, and international competitiveness in postgraduate education.
