Lagos State University (LASU) officially inaugurated a new cohort of 21 outstanding undergraduate students on Monday, December 1, 2025, for its Study–Work Scheme under the Open Educational Resources (OER) Project Portal for the Postgraduate School.

The ceremony took place at the Senate Chamber, 1st Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), whose office oversees the project, revealed that over 700 students applied, 400 were shortlisted, and only 21 were selected after a competitive process involving written exams and interviews. The OER project aims to digitalise all academic projects submitted by Postgraduate School graduates, enhancing accessibility and visibility in line with LASU’s vision of becoming a modern, technology-driven institution.
In her address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, commended the selected students for their exceptional performance. She emphasized that the programme provides an opportunity to earn income while gaining practical experience, noting that the skills acquired would strengthen participants’ curricula vitae and future prospects. She urged the students to approach the project with diligence, excellence, and integrity.

Professor Ibrahim Olateju, Dean of the Postgraduate School, welcomed the students, advising them to handle all resources responsibly and avoid copying or misappropriating materials. The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, highlighted the value of capacity building and ethical conduct, encouraging students to prioritize skill acquisition over monetary gains. Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, further commended LASU for creating the opportunity and reminded participants to uphold professionalism.
Responding on behalf of the cohort, Miss Rukayat Ololade Olorunnimbe, a 300-level Accounting student, expressed gratitude and pledged that the students would work diligently to ensure the scheme’s success. The Study–Work Scheme requires students to maintain strong academic performance while committing a minimum of three hours of work per day, three days per week, totaling 27 hours throughout the project.
The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Samuel Otesanya, Deputy Registrar, Academic Staff Establishment. Other attendees included representatives from the Bursar’s office, the Sub-Dean of the Postgraduate School, Deputy Registrars, DICT staff, and personnel from the University Multimedia Centre and the Centre for Information and Public Relations.

The initiative underscores LASU’s commitment to integrating technology with education while providing students with hands-on experience that contributes meaningfully to the University’s development.
