 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University of Science and Technology branch (ASUU-LASUSTECH), has voiced robust support for the national union’s directives, urging swift federal compliance with union stipulations and condemning the government’s continued inaction.

During a press conference held at the institution’s Ikorodu campus, ASUU-LASUSTECH reaffirmed its solidarity with the national body on crucial issues. The union criticized the federal government for its lack of responsiveness to longstanding demands, which include funding for university revitalization, infrastructure upgrades, adherence to agreements dating back to 2009, and matters concerning university autonomy and academic freedom.

Tayo Okulaja, President of the ASUU-LASUSTECH Branch, highlighted grievances related to delayed salary payments and discrepancies in remuneration structures that have emerged following the university’s transformation. "The implementation of IPPIS has exacerbated issues, denying due allowances and affecting sabbatical arrangements," Okulaja emphasized.

Despite these challenges, Okulaja urged students to understand that the union’s actions are aimed at enhancing educational sustainability. "ASUU’s potential strike actions are not against students but for their welfare and academic advancement," he assured.

Okulaja expressed hope for constructive dialogue with the government but warned that failure to address the union’s concerns would leave them with no choice but to proceed with industrial action.
