MSSN UNIMAID Hosts Orientation for Fresh Students, Emphasises Academic Integrity and Islamic Morals

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) branch of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has successfully conducted its 2026 orientation programme, designed to guide newly admitted students toward academic excellence rooted in Islamic principles.

The event, held on April 5, 2026, featured high-level participation from staff advisers, including Prof. S.B. Adamu and Prof. Shehu Hassan, alongside student leaders and delegates from various faculties.

Keynote speaker Sheikh Muhammad Mustapha Albarnawy opened the session by calling on the new intake to serve as "good ambassadors of Islam" throughout their degree programmes. He stressed that a student’s conduct on campus should be a reflection of their faith, urging them to strictly adhere to Islamic teachings while pursuing their career goals.

The Ameer of MSSN UNIMAID, Ustadz Ahmad Zubairu Yakubu, formally welcomed the freshers, encouraging them to find a sense of community and purpose by actively participating in the Society's spiritual and intellectual activities.

A major highlight of the programme was a technical lecture titled "The True Test: Navigating Academic Integrity at UNIMAID," delivered by Ustadz Pharm Abdul-Lateef Siyaka.

In a powerful appeal to the students' conscience, Pharm Siyaka warned against the temptation of examination malpractice. "On the Day of Judgement... Allah will not ask, 'Why did you get a 2.2?' He will ask, 'Why did you cheat?'" he stated, reminding the students that their character is more valuable than their grade point average.

Reinforcing this message, Professor S.B. Adamu urged students to prioritise sincerity and honesty over "achieving by hook or crook," noting that maintaining integrity is a direct protection of one’s Iman (faith).

The orientation served as a precursor to a wider series of scholarly engagements, including a follow-up lecture by Sheikh Muhammad Alhaji Abubakar at the Ummah Masjid. The Society has invited all students to join their digital community via WhatsApp for continued mentorship and academic support.
