The ultimatum comes after years of inaction by the university's management, despite assurances from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folashade Ogunsola, regarding the reinstatement of the Students’ Union.

During a press conference at the NANS Headquarters, Oladimeji Uthman, the Clerk of the Senate, stated that if no action is taken within the stipulated timeframe, armless battalions of students will storm UNILAG. The absence of a democratically elected Students’ Union Government has led to a decline in optimum student welfare and representation.

NANS strongly condemns the management’s inaction, viewing it as an attempt to stifle student activism and suppress dissenting voices. They accuse the institution of disregarding the freedom of association and abusing fundamental human rights, citing the continued collection of Students’ Union annual dues despite the suspension of the union.

The demands outlined by NANS include the immediate announcement of the Students' Union reinstatement, constitution of an electoral body for SUG elections within seven days, setting a date for the SUG election, ensuring a transparent electoral process, student representation in decision-making processes, and investigation into corrupt practices at the Directorate of Students’ Affairs.

Failure to comply within the ultimatum period will result in peaceful protests, mobilization of national and international support, and other necessary measures to ensure student rights are respected. NANS urges UNILAG management to act swiftly and responsibly to avoid disruptions to academic activities.

NANS reiterates its commitment to the welfare and rights of Nigerian students, both at home and abroad, pledging to uphold student democracy and ensure that student voices are heard.
