Top officials of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) have visited Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to understudy the institution’s Botanical Garden and its management in preparation for the establishment of a similar garden at the military academy.

Top officials of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) have visited Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to understudy the institution’s Botanical Garden and its management in preparation for the establishment of a similar garden at the military academy.

The officials, led by the Commandant of the academy, Major-General John Ochefu Ochai, made their mission known when they came to the University recently. They were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala.

Speaking at the courtesy call, the Commandant told the Vice-Chancellor that NDA admired the University botanical garden and conservatory efforts, saying that the academy would want ABU to hep NDA have its own garden for student practical and research.

The Commandant also disclosed that NDA would take advantage of the ABU Distance Learning Centre in order to set up an e-learning unit to cater for those in far away places wishing to study at the academy.

Major-General Ochai thanked the Vice-Chancellor and Management staff of the University for according him and members of his entourage warm reception during the visit.

Responding, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, expressed gratitude to NDA and the Commandant for the high regard they have for ABU, saying that the University would continue to help the military institution towards its academic growth and development.

Shortly after the courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the Head of Department of Botany, Prof. Bashir Y. Abubakar, took the Commandant and members of his entourage to the University Botanical Garden where they were conducted round and saw various specifies of plants.

The Commandant expressed satisfaction with what they saw at the garden, particularly the good management of the different plants by the Department of Botany.

The Prof. Abubakar was assisted by Prof. D.B. Dangora of Department of Botany and Head of Botanical Garden, Malam Sanusi Namadi.

Members of the Commandant’s entourage included Director of Administration, Commodore D.M. Ndanusa; Director of Logistics, Air Commodore S.A. Buhari; Academy Registrar, Brigadier-General A.M. Tukur; Cadets Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.I. Odigie; and Academy Public Relations Officer, Major M. Maiwada.

Others were Assistant Academy Adjutant, Squadron Leader, D.T. Zakka; Deputy Registrar, Admissions, Malam Abdu Yusuf; Senior Lecturer, Department of Geography, Prof. Gabriel Ajibade; and Head of Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Victoria Dan.
