New SSANU-LASU Executives Commit to Strengthening Collaboration with Management on Staff Welfare and Institutional Progress

The team, led by Comrade Odumosu Demu, met with members of the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, on Thursday, 6th November 2025.
In his address, Comrade Demu expressed the union’s appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for her administration’s consistent focus on staff welfare, citing various policies and initiatives that have improved the working environment for members. He described LASU as a strong and reputable brand that staff are proud to represent, assuring Management that the union, under his leadership, would maintain a cooperative approach to further strengthen the University’s achievements.
He stated that the new executive council was committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue as a means of resolving all issues affecting staff, noting that the era of agitation had given way to partnership and understanding. He also presented several requests on behalf of the union for Management’s consideration.

Responding, Professor Olatunji-Bello commended the new executives for their maturity and commitment to collaboration. She reaffirmed that staff welfare has remained central to her administration’s agenda and would continue to receive priority attention.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that her administration has approved unprecedented promotions for staff and recently created Level 15 for non-academic personnel, enabling career progression to the highest ranks. “We want every staff member to aspire to the peak of their careers. I encourage continuous self-development so everyone can benefit fully from these opportunities,” she said.
She further disclosed that the University has intensified efforts to upgrade staff offices and work environments as part of broader welfare improvements. She assured the SSANU executives that their requests would receive due consideration and that LASU Management would continue to engage the Lagos State Government to sustain the University’s positive momentum.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu; Bursar, Mr Said Babatunde Olayinka (represented by Deputy Bursar, Mr Kunle Odunlami); and University Librarian, Dr Omawunmi Makinde, alongside senior officials from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
