The Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) has issued a new academic directive requiring all lecturers to conduct at least one continuous assessment (CA) test within two weeks of students’ resumption for each semester.

The policy was approved during the 25th Meeting of the University Senate on 9th July 2025, with the aim of enhancing academic discipline and promoting greater engagement among both lecturers and students.

According to an internal memorandum from the Office of the Registrar, all tests are to be conducted physically on campus, and results must be submitted promptly to the respective Heads of Department.

Lecturers are also instructed to provide students with a minimum of two days’ notice before administering any assessment. The directive applies to both the first and second semesters of the academic session.

The University emphasized that this measure is part of ongoing efforts to maintain high academic standards and ensure students actively engage with their coursework from the very start of the session.
