Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Refutes Reports of Fatalities in Abuja School Incident

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has debunked claims circulating in certain media outlets suggesting the killing of two students in a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja. The NSCDC clarified that the reports were inaccurate and that no fatalities occurred as reported.
NSCDC's Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, Comfort Okomanyi, issued a statement on Thursday, stating that two students sustained bullet wounds unintentionally during an incident where warning shots were fired into the air. This action was taken to prevent potential violence by expelled students suspected to be cult members, who were attempting to wreak havoc in the school.

On November 29, the school experienced an invasion by expelled students and their collaborators, leading to a disturbance of peace and destruction of teachers' cars in the parking lot. Armed with dangerous weapons, the hoodlums attacked unarmed NSCDC personnel, school staff, and students, resulting in the unintentional injury of two students when warning shots were fired.

In response to the incident, the NSCDC FCT Commandant collaborated with the police to restore order and ensure the safety of the school premises. The injured students are reportedly in stable condition, and the NSCDC has expressed commitment to cover the medical expenses incurred during their treatment.
To address the situation, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered a Forensic Psychological Examination of all armed personnel in the FCT Command. Additionally, a panel of inquiry has been set up to investigate the matter, and internal disciplinary measures will be taken against any personnel found culpable.

The NSCDC FCT Command apologized to the parents and guardians of the injured students, reaffirming its commitment to the Federal Government's Safe School program. The command emphasized that it would not tolerate any actions that could jeopardize peace and security in academic environments.
