NiMet and Nasarawa State University Partner to Strengthen Research
NiMet and Nasarawa State University have agreed to enhance their collaboration on research, education, and community outreach initiatives focused on weather and climate information.
On Tuesday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nasarawa State University reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership, which began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in February 2020. This decision was made during a courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, at NiMet headquarters in Abuja.

Professor Anosike congratulated Prof. Liman on her appointment and emphasized that the renewed partnership would encompass joint research and outreach programs. "NiMet and Nasarawa State University can collaborate on community outreach initiatives to educate the public on weather and climate information," said Anosike. He also highlighted the importance of early warnings and addressing disaster risks, particularly in the context of Nasarawa State's agricultural viability. One immediate focus will be the downscaling of seasonal climate predictions.

Prof. Liman expressed gratitude to Prof. Anosike and NiMet management for accommodating her team on short notice.
