The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has inducted 68 graduates from the Department of Nursing Sciences at Edo State University, Uzairue, during a ceremony held on October 16, 2024.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has proudly inducted 68 nurses from the Department of Nursing Sciences at Edo State University, Uzairue. The induction ceremony took place on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for the graduates in their professional journey.

During the event, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, highlighted the university's commitment to equipping its graduates with the skills necessary to address the challenges of the nursing profession. He reminded the new nurses of their vital role in healthcare, stressing the need for compassion, continuous learning, and professionalism.

“As future leaders in healthcare, you bear the crucial responsibility of caring for the vulnerable and the ailing,” Prof. Egbefo stated, emphasizing the significant responsibilities that come with being a nurse. He also commended the Edo State government for converting the Central Hospital Auchi into Edo State University Teaching Hospital, a pivotal step towards enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the state. However, he urged the government to ensure adequate facilities at the hospital to support high-quality healthcare delivery.

Dr. Ndagi Al-Hassan, Registrar of the NMCN, represented by Deputy Director Dr. Dorothy Oneh, congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their careers. She underscored the importance of adhering to professional conduct and ethical guidelines, which every nurse in Nigeria must uphold.

Dr. Beatrice Obende, Lecturer in Charge of the Department of Nursing, welcomed the attendees and spoke about the unique value that nursing adds to patient care, emphasizing its impact on patient wellbeing and the preservation of patient rights.
