In a notable development that underscores the importance of civic education and electoral accountability, the North-Eastern University, Gombe, has received a special donation from The Electoral Hub—an esteemed not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting electoral knowledge, integrity, inclusion, and accountability in Nigeria.

The donation, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, includes three copies of a specially curated coffee table knowledge product titled: "Professor Mahmood Yakubu: Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission 2015–2025."

This publication chronicles the decade-long tenure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), capturing key moments, reforms, and achievements during his leadership from 2015 to 2025.

In a letter signed by Princess Hamman-Obels, Director of The Electoral Hub, the organization expressed its desire to provide the University and its library with resources that deepen understanding of Nigeria’s electoral system. The book, developed by a committee of friends, serves as a tribute to Professor Yakubu’s exemplary service and also as an academic resource for students, researchers, and policymakers.

“This coffee table book provides a deeper understanding of the electoral process and the integrity of elections in Nigeria. We believe it will be a valuable resource for your office and the University’s library,” the letter reads.

Receiving the books, the Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern University Gombe, Professor Yusuph Amuda-Yahaya, expressed gratitude to The Electoral Hub for its thoughtful contribution, noting that the resource aligns with the university’s commitment to producing informed graduates who are not only academically sound but also civically responsible.

He further stated that the books will be made available at the University Library for public consultation, especially for students in Political Science, Law, and Development Studies.

This donation marks another step in strengthening academic–civic collaboration and equipping Nigerian students with the tools to engage thoughtfully in the democratic process.
