Northwest University Kano Vice Chancellor Honours Best Chemistry Student with Monetary Reward
In an inspiring moment that reflected the academic values of Northwest University Kano, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, today August 6, 2025 honoured Miss Hafsat Mustapha Muhammad, a Level 400 student from the Department of Chemistry, who currently holds the highest CGPA in her department—an impressive 4.63.
The brief but symbolic event took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Office on the Main Campus and was attended by several principal officers of the university. Professor Kurawa congratulated Hafsat on her exceptional academic performance and encouraged her to remain focused in order to maintain her First Class standing.
He shared a personal story from his own academic journey, revealing that he too was once the best student in Chemistry during his undergraduate years at Bayero University Kano. According to him, moments of recognition like this can shape a student's future and inspire even greater achievements.
In recognition of Hafsat’s academic excellence, the Vice Chancellor awarded her a monetary gift, describing it as a token of appreciation and motivation not just for her but for all students striving for excellence.
Hafsat was accompanied to the Vice Chancellor’s Office by fellow top-performing students from the Department of Chemistry, who are also leading their respective academic levels. Their presence highlights the department's consistent academic strength.
Also in attendance was the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, who coincidentally is also from the Chemistry Department. He expressed immense pride in the students and the department as a whole, describing the recognition as both well-deserved and a call for continued dedication.
“This is a clear indication that hard work, focus, and a conducive learning environment truly pay off.” Dr. Ibrahim affirmed.
Other key officials present at the event included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aisha Garba Habib; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Dr. Tijjani Rufa’i Buhari; the Registrar, Adm. Isyaku Adamu; the Bursar, Malam Salmanu Muhammad Kibiya; and the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Yusuf Musa Kibiya.
The Vice Chancellor, in his closing remarks, emphasized that the university will continue to celebrate excellence wherever it is found and to provide encouragement for those who need to improve.
“We want our students to know that the university sees them, appreciates them, and will always stand by those who work hard and strive for greatness.” Professor Kurawa said.
