NOUN to Host Workshops on New Digital Frontiers of Information
The workshops, themed New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Public Interest Information, are scheduled for Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) will host two workshops to commemorate Global Media and Information Literacy Day at its headquarters in Abuja. The workshops, themed New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Public Interest Information, are scheduled for Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
Organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information, the International Media and Information Literacy Institute of NOUN (IMILI-NOUN), and UNESCO, the workshops aim to highlight the importance of media and information literacy in combating misinformation and promoting accurate information sharing.
Dr. Lateef Adelakun, Head of NOUN’s Mass Communication Department, noted that the first-day workshop will focus on community engagement and responsible media consumption, targeting Mass Communication students, educators, and the university community. Dr. Jacob Shagbaor Suemo of Nile University will serve as guest speaker, while NOUN’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, will be the chief host.
The second-day workshop will be directed at policy makers, communication professionals, and civil society groups, with Mardia Umar of EFCC Radio as the guest speaker.
Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event celebrating efforts to enhance media and information literacy worldwide.
