In a compelling lecture titled "Building a Model Public University in the 21st Century: A Case Study of the University of Port Harcourt," Prof. Joseph Ajienka, the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, shared an ambitious vision for the advancement of public higher education in Nigeria.

 

The lecture, delivered on the first day of the two-day retreat organized by UNIPORT's Governing Council, took place at the IBOM Hotels and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Prof. Ajienka underscored the need for innovation in teaching and research, stressing the critical role of technology integration in modern education.

He also outlined strategies to boost student engagement, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen community partnerships. "To remain relevant in today’s fast-paced world, universities must adapt and evolve," he said, emphasizing the role of public universities as drivers of societal development.
