NSUK Holds Strategic Town Hall Meeting to Strengthen Institutional Development
Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), on Tuesday, 18th November, 2025, held a high-level town hall meeting at the S. B. Mohammed Auditorium, School of Postgraduate Studies, to review the university’s progress, address emerging challenges, and outline strategies for strengthening institutional development.
The session brought together representatives from the State Ministry of Education; ASUU and JAC, (NASU, SSANU, NAAT); Deans and Directors of Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Centres; Heads of Department and units;, and members of the university management.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Honourable John D. W. Mamman expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the visitor to the University, for his unwavering support to NSUK. He applauded the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, for her effective leadership, noting that the meeting aligns with the Governor’s commitment to enhancing quality education, capacity development, and value addition in the state’s tertiary institutions. He emphasized that the forum would help assess achievements recorded so far and identify priority areas requiring improvement to meet global standards. The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to address NSUK’s pressing concerns.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman (Fellow UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFP, CBER), lauded the Governor for his consistent support, citing numerous projects executed in the University, such as the 4.5 Kilometre roads network, installation of solar light in Gudi and drilling of boreholes in the Hostels that have enhanced campus operations. She also appreciated the Commissioner for his guidance and responsiveness to the university’s needs.
Professor Liman outlined several critical agenda items, including curriculum reform tailored to labour market demands, strategies for strengthening higher education delivery, and efforts to build a robust educational system capable of producing globally competitive graduates. She highlighted ongoing initiatives focused on learning digitization, staff capacity development, TVET and STEM education, scholarship opportunities, student and staff mobility programmes, and the internationalization of academic partnerships to promote global exposure and collaborative research.
Speaking on behalf of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Comrade Dr, Olatunji Ayanninuola commended the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership and the Commissioner’s support, while drawing attention to unresolved issues such as unpaid EAA arrears, minimum-wage adjustments, pension concerns, and the need for a more competitive salary structure.
Similarly, Prof. Abdullahi Adamu Sulaiman, Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Academic Directors, appealed for special capital funding to complete essential academic facilities required to meet NUC standards. He also called for a review of the high tax burden on staff, enhanced training opportunities, and increased academic staffing—all requiring intervention from the State Government.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed II acknowledged the Governor’s responsiveness to the university’s needs and commended the Commissioner for his steadfast support. He further appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to academic excellence and commended the contributions of Deans, Directors, and other management staff. He urged all stakeholders to remain steadfast in their responsibilities to sustain and further elevate NSUK’s standards.
