NUPEC Chief Urges Inclusion of Peace Education in Schools, Calls for Peace Corps Bill Signing.

The Commandant General of the National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC), Dr. Chinedu Nebu, has urged the federal government to incorporate peace education into the primary and secondary school curriculum to foster a culture of peaceful coexistence from an early age.

Speaking at the 2024 International Day of Peace event themed “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” Dr. Nebu emphasized NUPEC’s readiness to collaborate with the government to establish a regulatory body for mining activities. This initiative aims to eliminate disputes and violence in mining communities and address conflicts arising from banditry, Boko Haram, IPOB, and other groups through conflict resolution and management.

Dr. Nebu also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the Peace Corps bill once it is passed by the National Assembly. He highlighted the importance of peace education and the role of NUPEC in mitigating conflicts and promoting harmony in Nigeria.
