The inaugural Student Researchers Conference organized by students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, took place on June 1, 2024, at ACE Park, OAU, Ile-Ife. The conference featured esteemed guests including Prof. A. V. Adejumo from the Department of Economics, Dr. Funmilayo Wuraola from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and Dr. Malomo from the Faculty of Technology, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development (DVC RID), Prof. Akanni Akinyemi.

The keynote address emphasized the importance of university students engaging in research to contribute to national development. It highlighted the availability of grants to support impactful research, underscoring research as a public good. The address sparked discussions on various topics such as integrating research with the Sustainable Development Goals, writing grant proposals, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Breakout sessions covered topics including quantitative and qualitative research methodology, computer-aided drug design, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Three research presentations were delivered on themes including 'Heavy Metals in Drugs and Cosmetics', 'Conversion of Petrol Generators to Gas Generators', and 'Indigenous Plant Compounds for Asthma Treatment'.

The conference also marked the launch of a book of abstracts featuring 13 submissions from various states, demonstrating the commitment of the Young Researchers’ Hub to research and development. Awards were presented to supportive university staff, and recognition was given to the best student researcher who had published six articles in the current session.

The conference was hailed as a demonstration of excellence by the organizers, led by Mr. Taiwo Sokunbi, Director of the Young Researchers’ Hub.
