Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife is gearing up to play host to the highly anticipated 2023 West African Universities Games (WAUG) as the institution's management prepares for an exciting sports extravaganza.

In an official statement issued by the institution's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abiodun Olanrewaju, it was revealed that the 2023 WAUG is scheduled to kick off on December 16, promising a thrilling showcase of athletic talents from universities across the West African sub-region.

Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been designated as the special guest of honor for both the opening and closing ceremonies of the games, underscoring the significance of this international sporting event.

As the university eagerly anticipates the commencement of the 2023 WAUG, it is set to be a memorable celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and camaraderie, with the closing ceremony slated for December 22.
