OAUSTECH Set for 9th Convocation: 50 First-Class Graduates and Historic First PhD

The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has announced its 9th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Temi Ologunorisa, disclosed during a press briefing on February 26, 2026, that a total of 1,452 students will receive their degrees. 

Academic Breakdown and Top Achiever

Among the graduating class, 50 students achieved First-Class Honours. 

Best Graduating Student: Agboola Isaiah from the Department of Electrical Engineering, with a CGPA of 4.90.

Second-Class Upper Division: 594 graduates.

Second-Class Lower Division: 691 graduates.

Third-Class Honours: 115 graduates. 

Historic Milestone: First-Ever PhD 

For the first time since its inception, OAUSTECH will award a doctoral degree. The recipient will be conferred with a PhD in Mathematics, marking the institution's significant transition into advanced research and postgraduate excellence.

Global Partnerships and The Blue Economy

Vice-Chancellor Ologunorisa highlighted the university's growth, noting that the student population has expanded to 12,000 with seven active faculties. 

Convocation Lecture: To be delivered by Professor Andrew Spencer, President of the Caribbean Maritime University, Jamaica.

Focus: The lecture will explore how Nigeria can harness the Blue Economy, drawing lessons from the Caribbean.

New Programmes: In preparation for the anticipated Ondo deep seaport, OAUSTECH is launching maritime studies programmes, including Port Management and Maritime Transport and Logistics. 

This convocation will be the final one presided over by Professor Ologunorisa, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor concludes in a few months.
