OGITECH Denies Viral Image of Armed Men at Campus, Describes It as AI-Generated

The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media that purportedly shows armed men stationed at the institution's main gate.

In a statement issued by the management, the institution described the image as fabricated, misleading and artificially generated, stressing that it does not depict any real event or security incident within or around the campus.

According to the institution, no such occurrence has taken place at any time, contrary to claims being circulated alongside the image on various social media platforms.

The management urged students, parents, staff members and the general public to disregard the image and any accompanying narratives, warning that the publication was designed to create unnecessary fear, panic and confusion.

The institution further condemned the creation and spread of false information capable of misleading the public and damaging its reputation, noting that such actions constitute a serious offence.

OGITECH stated that it has commenced efforts to trace the source of the misleading publication and warned that anyone found responsible for creating, sharing or deliberately promoting the false content could face investigation and possible prosecution by relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of members of its community, the institution assured stakeholders that the campus remains safe and secure for learning and other academic activities.

The management also advised the public to rely solely on information released through the institution's official communication channels and to verify any security-related claims before sharing them.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence tools to generate deceptive images and content capable of spreading misinformation and causing public alarm.
