Ondo Varsity Workers Protest Non-Payment of N35,000 Award
Comrade Ekundayo Abiodun, Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union, asserted that the association would escalate their actions if their demands were not met, citing the unfair exclusion of state-owned institutions from the palliative payment.
Workers at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, halted activities at the institution over the alleged failure to implement a N35,000 palliative wage award. The award, approved to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal, has reportedly not been received by university staff since its initiation in November 2023.
The protest, led by the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non-Academic Staff Union, and the National Association of Academic Technologists, aimed to pressure the state government and school authorities to disburse the payment, which other state workers have allegedly received.
