A female student added, "I know a good number of students that were barely feeding when they were in school because their parents took loans for their school fees and they had nothing to fall back on. This increment will not only cause pain and confusion but it will send a lot of students packing. We need help please."
The hike, a common trend in various federal universities, is often justified by the institutions' need to augment revenue due to inadequate government funding. Other universities experiencing fee increases include the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAD), University of Uyo (UNIYO), University of Calabar (UNICA), Federal University Dutse, Federal University, Lafia (FULafia), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, University of Ilorin (UNIILORIN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and more.

UNILAG, for instance, has raised fees for medicine to N190,250, while courses with laboratory and studio requirements now cost N140,250. Similar concerns have been raised across the academic landscape as students and parents grapple with the financial implications of these tuition hikes.
The situation at OAU Teaching Hospital College of Nursing underscores broader challenges within the Nigerian educational system, where financial burdens are increasingly borne by students and their families.
