Oyo State Lawmaker Advocates Autonomy for Oyo College of Nursing and Midwifery

In a recent session at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Salami Ayinde, representing Irepo/Olorunsogo constituency, presented a motion advocating for the autonomy and transformation of the Oyo College of Nursing and Midwifery, Kisi, into a fully autonomous medical institution.
Ayinde argued that the Kisi campus possessed the necessary facilities and infrastructure to operate independently as a medical institution. Emphasizing the potential benefits, he stated that granting autonomy would enhance the institution's capacity to produce qualified medical professionals, contributing significantly to the state and the nation.

The motion highlighted the college's commitment to the establishment of a medical institution in Oke-Ogun. In 2016, the Kisi Progressive Union (KPU) and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in Irepo Local Government donated buildings and other infrastructure to the state government, further supporting the call for autonomy.
Facilities inherited by the Oyo State Government include a 25-bedroom hostel donated by the Nigerian Army’s Military-Civil cooperation, an e-library donated by the Adesope family in Kisi, an auditorium with five offices, and a block of five rooms, among others.

The motion stressed that various Kisi indigenes were committed to maintaining high standards if the institution becomes autonomous and fully-fledged.
In a related development during the plenary, the Oyo State House of Assembly urged the state government to formulate a policy framework for the adoption and implementation of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security. The motion, presented by Hon. Comforter Olajide, called for the development of the State Action Plan to facilitate grants and programs for women empowerment and gender equality.
